Sun: Ruby, used by royalty to focus and sustain their ability to command and rule. It sustains our vitality and will. Traits that it enhances are leadership, independence, purity. Weakness or afflictions are sometimes demonstrated by a sense of helplessness, but very often it shows up as an unreasonableness, egotism or self absorption, which is a sign of a weak sense of self. A weak planetary ruler of the ascendant (see Rahu, below) can also cause these symptoms, and a weak Mars can cause similar problems as well, which is why they must also be looked at astrologically. The ruby, unless in a balanced multi-gem bangle, should be used with care by Pisces, Gemini and Libra Ascendants, and with companion gems, for every ascendant. Ruby is generally good for Leo, Aries and Sagittarius Ascendants.

Stone of Pinkish Red color, it generally occurs in crystal of six sided prism. Ruby is the Gemstone, used to enhance the powers of the Sun. An individual whose Sun is well placed in the birth Chart can never be unsuccessful. There are several attributes which decides the superiority of the ruby. Surya, the sun acts like the Thalamus in the Human Physiology.

Moon: Pearl increases emotional stability, mental strength, friendliness and contentment. Weakness or afflictions are shown by anxiety, mental and emotional swings, worry, isolation or the inability to cope with relationships and people. An afflicted Mercury or Rahu can also cause some similar difficulties. Unless well balanced with other gems, consideration should be taken if the person is overweight, has high phlegm, congestion (Kapha) or for Taurus, Aquarius and Sagittarius Ascendants. Pearls are especially helpful for Cancer, Pisces and Scorpio Ascendants.

A quite, gentle shine and softness of the pearl has endeared it alike to Men and Women over the ages. Pearls comes in White, Black and with Tinges of Yellow, Blue, Salmon Pink, Red, Brown and Green. Emerald saves a person from troubles, increases power of faculty, gives mental peace, pacifies the anger and increases eye sight. It keeps the body health and mind happy. It is uses to counter the ill effects of mercury.

Mars: Red Coral helps stimulate courage, energy, insight and ability to win over opponents. Weakness is shown by lack of motivation, laziness, fear, passiveness, or inability to control their passions and/or temper. Care should be taken in the size of red coral used, if high sexuality, or fever (Pitta) is present. Gemini and Virgo Ascendants should be careful wearing red coral except with counterbalancing gems. Red coral is especially good for Aries, Scorpio, Cancer and Leo Ascendants.

Moonga, red and sindoori (vermilion) in color. The use of the coral in jewellery dates back to the Romans who considered it auspicious worn in amulets. A good coral is opaquered, is perfectly round or oval and regular; is smooth, and gives out lovely splendorous. Moonga influences Mangal or Mars which is responible for the field of activity, energy, courage, ambition, sports, property, strength, commander, technical ability, mechanical, forcefulness and bravery. Mangal or Mars is like a general with its focus on precision and power in activity. These structures in the brain control activity by providing checks and balances, activating and inhibiting impulses in the brain, and maintaining steadiness and precision of movement.

These influences can be strengthened with the wearing of Vidruma or coral when recommended. Any person for whom Mars is malefic should wear a Corel. For those who have been defeated by enemies and who are hopeless about future, struggling in life should wear coral.

Jupiter: Yellow Sapphire enhances the qualities of Jupiter, such as wisdom, judgment, expansiveness, compassion, joyfulness, enthusiasm and faith. Sani or Saturn represents longevity, discipline, authority, ambition, leadership, honesty, perfection, humility, elders, denial, delays, misery, adversity, accidents, conservatism and dutifulness. It's role is often symbolized as a servant. It's influence is often seen as restrictive or obstructive yet its influence also seeks to bring balance.It's influences may be harmonized by the blue sapphire. Sani is furthest from the Sun. Sani or Saturn in the human physiology is expressed through the activities of the putamen. The putamen, like Sani in the solar system, is placed at the outer edge of the basal ganglia. It's influence, like Sani, is that of a servant.

It receives major input and instructions that it transmits to the basal ganglia. Has the color of red smoke or honey. Also zericon, chemically it is silicate of zirconium and crystal and occurs either as a four sided prism or as water pebbles. To be consider auspicious, the stone should reflect a pure color, be homogenous and soft to touch. If it shows a blackish is rough to touch and looks like a piece of yellow glass, the gomedha is not auspicious. The best gomedha comes from Sri Lanka. In India the stone is found in Kashmir, Bihar, Kullu, Shimla and Koimbatore. This is a very strong gem and its' use can be adverse sometimes. It's wearing purifies the mind. The mind is charged with virtuous thoughts and positive attitude. Sapphire is worn to protect one from evil effect of Saturn.

Rahu: Hessonite Garnet is the gem for the shadowy planet Rahu, called the North Node in the West. In this age of media, electronic devices and electromagnetic radiation, Rahu is very much affecting the world in general. It helps to balance the influences of media like television, it aids a sense of clarity, of knowing one's own mind, and general popularity in society. When weak or poorly placed, it causes strange reactions, imaginings, occult influences, fear, agitation, addictive behavior, drugs, lack of sense of self, lack of regard for society's norms or dissipation. Therefore, Hessonite Garnet, also known in ancient India as cinnabar, is obviously a very good gem to wear in a Navaratna during this age.

Gomed represents Rahu, the ascending node of the moon. It's natural significations include worldly desires, worldly benefits, laziness, gratification, and ignorance. It is by nature unpredictable and creates sudden changes and influences, rigidity and passion. It is similar to Sani or Saturn in its nature and influence. Traditionally, rahu is known as the "head of the dragon".

Cat's Eye harmonizes Ketu which is traditionally known as the "tail of the dragon". In Jyotish, Ketu is the descending node of Chandra (Moon). It's influences are similar to Mangal or Mars and include liberation, abstract thinking, asceticism, non-attachment, healing, moksha--enlightenment, wisdom and that which is hidden. Ketu's influence in the physiology is represented by the tail of the caudate. It's influence is over learning and emotions. It's wearing removes physical weakness. Mental worries are removed. If cat's eye acts favorably, it makes one a wealthy person.
